Updated 29th September (STAFF ONLY)

Guidance on the self-declaration route for frontline health and social care workers to book their Phase 3 Booster Covid-19 Vaccination via the National Booking Service (NBS)

The COVID-19 vaccination national booking service will be open for frontline health and social care staff to book a booster vaccine appointment through self-referral from today.

Staff employed by an NHS Trust should follow their Trust’s guidance on booking a booster vaccination in the first instance. We encourage other staff to also check if their employer has arrangements for offering a booster.

From 24th September, HSCW staff will be able to book their appointment online at: Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination – NHS (www.nhs.uk) or by ringing 119. As part of the booking process, they will need to self-declare they are a frontline health or social care worker. When booking, they will be advised on the evidence they will need to provide at the vaccination site as of proof of employment. HSCW will only be vaccinated if official proof is presented. Whilst this guidance is aimed at NBS bookings, the ID requirements also apply to individuals who are vaccinated via local booking services or walk-in clinics.

Vaccination site leads are responsible for ensuring local processes are in place to check-in HSCW and record their booster vaccination.

Updated 21st November 2022.

We are now open for visiting as normal,

You do not need to book a visit, but we do ask that you wear a mask on arrival and sign in.

Thankyou.

We look forward to seeing you.

Updated 7th July 2021

Unfortunately, we have had to close the home to visitors due to a positive test result. This means the home will be closed for visitors until the 16th July 2021.

Essential medical appointments

Updated 16th May 2021

As of 17th May 2021, there is new guidance with regards to visits to care home residents.

From Monday, 5 visitors are allowed to visit their loved one once per week. An appointment must be made with the office – this is to regulate how many people we have in the care home at one time.

We are asking that all visitors now do their own LFD test at home prior to coming to the care home. This eliminates the 30 minute wait period and allows us to have more appointment times to visit loved ones.

LFD testing kits are available from local chemists or distribution sites, see further guidance here: https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests

You must present a NEGATIVE LFD test upon arrival at the home at your appointment time to a staff member. You will then be asked to wear full PPE (mask, gloves, apron) when inside the home, a staff member will then take your temperature and sign you in to log your negative test result.

Visits will continue to be in the safe environment of resident’s rooms. Visits are permitted to 2 hours per visit, and 2 households can mix during a visit at any time.

You may also take your loved one out of the care home to visit an indoor environment. However, this must be limited to two households for the welfare of your loved one. (Resident counts as one, family member collecting loved one counts as one).

We understand that this is a difficult time but we must follow these procedures and guidelines to ensure we can return to normal as soon as possible, for our residents and their families.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call the office on 01642 590404.

Updated 5th May 2021

Spending time out of the care home has always been an important part of life for many people living in residential care. This might include visits with friends and family to outdoor spaces and leisure venues, or to celebrate special occasions. The COVID-19 pandemic has meant that much of this visiting out of the care home has had to stop.

Please see updated guidance from the Department for Health and Social Care regarding visits outside of the home:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/arrangements-for-visiting-out-of-the-care-home/visits-out-of-care-homes

7th April 2020

As of 12th April 2020, we are able to accommodate two visitors per resident per week, following Government guidance found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/visiting-care-homes-during-coronavirus/update-on-policies-for-visiting-arrangements-in-care-homes

This means that a resident will be able to have 2 visits per week, from EITHER:

  • 2 people, from the same household, twice per week
  • 2 people, from different households, twice per week (two separate visits)

If you have LFD tests at home, you can use these within the immediate time prior to coming to the care home for your visit if you wish to speed up the process of you coming into the home. You must provide evidence that you have completed your LFD test and it is negative.

You can order LFD tests at home following this link: https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests if your household meets the criteria.

We can not accommodate two visitors from different households at the same time as this is not currently permitted within lockdown guidelines – indoor mixing is not yet permitted.

These nominated visitors must remain the same until Government guidance is updated to reflect the new lockdown guidelines.

To book a visit or if you have any questions, please call the office on 01642 590404

Let’s hope it is not long until we all get back to normal!

Updated 5th March 2021

GREAT news! We are opening for visitors from the 8th March 2021.

You must book an appointment to see your relative through the home administrator by calling 01642 590404. The following time slots available are: 9.00, 10.00, 11.00, 1.00, 1.45, 2.30, 3.15

We are following guidance from the Department for Health and Social Care, which states:

One nominated family member must visit each time to limit the number of different individuals coming into contact. This is in order to limit the overall number of visitors to the care home and/or to the individual, and the consequent risk of disease transmission from multiple different routes.

Please do not book a visit to see your loved one if you feel unwell or have any COVID-19 symptoms, which are detailed on this link: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/symptoms/

You should also book to get a COVID-19 test if you feel you have COVID-19 symptoms.

The appointment time will be to get your LFD (rapid COVID-19 test) done upon entering the home. This test involves a mouth and nasal swab which will produce results within 30 minutes. Whilst waiting for the swab result, you will be asked to either wait in your car or under the sheltered area outside the home. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate visitors inside the home whilst awaiting a test result.

If your test result is negative, you will be allowed into the home to visit your relative. You are able to stay in the home as long as you like, however, you must remain in your relatives room to avoid contact with other residents and staff.

If your test result is positive, you will not be allowed to enter the care home and must take another COVID-19 test which is sent to a lab to be processed and self-isolate immediately until your results are contacted to you.

If your test result is inconclusive, you will be asked to repeat the test and wait another 30 minutes for the result. If the second test produces an inconclusive result again, we are unable to accommodate you into the home – this is because we are unable to get a conclusive reading and as we are currently in Tier 3 restrictions.

Visitors must wear appropriate PPE  throughout the visit, and around the care home building and grounds. This will be provided to you.

Social distancing (between visitors and residents, staff, and visitors from other households) must be maintained at all times – during the visit, and around the care home building and grounds. Therefore, visits will take place in resident’s bedrooms. During the visit, you must limit physical contact with your relative to holding hands – this is guidance from Public Health England. If you need assistance from staff, you can ring the nurse call buzzer and staff will be happy to assist you.

We are still available to facilitate FaceTime and window visits outside of these times. However, these slots are limited so please book in advance on 01642 590404.

Following new government guidelines, rules regarding visiting your loved ones has now changed. The new rules are as follows, 1 essential care giver and 3 nominated visitors, 2 visitors can visit together at any one time.

Any residents who leaves the care home setting who isn’t double vaccinated will have to isolate for 14 days on their arrival back to the care home.

Also any residents who are double vaccinated and leave the care home setting will be required to do  LFT test every day for 10 days on arrival back to the care home.

Due to the outbreak of Covid-19 in the care home we have had advice from Public Health England, the local council and commissioning who are strongly advising against visits out and overnight night stays away from the care home. So it has been decided that no visits outside of the home will take place which is the best decision for all of our residents safety. This decisions hasn’t been easy but we are doing all we can to protect our residents, staff and families.

31st December 2020

Unfortunately, due to the Tier 4 restrictions commencing in Middlesbrough from today, we are now shut to visitors. We understand that this may be frustrating and upsetting for relatives, therefore, we are still providing window visits to loved ones or FaceTime calls. These can be booked in by contacting Mel, our Activities Co-ordinator on 01642 590404.

Updated 17th December 2020

GREAT news! We are opening for visitors from the 21st December 2020.

You must book an appointment to see your relative through the home administrator by calling 01642 590404. The following time slots available Monday – Sunday are: 8.30am, 9.30am, 10.30am, 1.00pm and 2.00pm.

We are following guidance from the Department for Health and Social Care, which states:

“Visitor numbers should be limited to a maximum of 2 constant visitors wherever possible. This, for example, means the same family member visiting each time to limit the number of different individuals coming into contact. This is in order to limit the overall number of visitors to the care home and/or to the individual, and the consequent risk of disease transmission from multiple different routes”

However, at this present time we are only able to facilitate one visit per resident per week to ensure we have sufficient staff to facilitate safe visiting. We hope to review this in the New Year.

If the second test produces an inconclusive result again, we are unable to accommodate you into the home – this is because we are unable to get a conclusive reading and as we are currently in Tier 3 restrictions.

You are able to bring presents, gifts, clothing etc into the home. Staff will take them from you upon your arrival and decontaminate them before giving them to your loved one.

We look forward to seeing all our families and friends again, we hope this is a light at the end of the tunnel. The Manager and all of our staff would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.

5th November 2020

Following recent changes to the government guidance regarding visiting Care Homes, we are looking to ease our own restrictions on visits to our homes, and welcome our Relatives back into our homes.

The visits will be introduced from Wednesday 11th November and be conducted in accordance with government guidance in order to continue to safeguard the health and wellbeing of Residents, Colleagues and Relatives. Our visits will be kept to outdoor spaces, and observe 2m social distancing. No more than 1 visitor during any visit. It is anticipated that we will make 45-minute time slots available for visiting available from Monday to Friday. This is to have a management presence and sufficient staffing levels to ensure that visits are managed and run smoothly for all.

Visit slots are available to be booked in advance by calling the home office on 01642 590404 to arrange a visit. Visits can only be booked by the Home’s Administrator and not staff working on the units, to avoid any double booking.

Visits will now be conducted from the rear of Stainton Lodge Care Centre through a window, we apologise for this inconvenient method of visiting however we must stay within government guidelines and prevent any visitors from walking through the care home. Your family member will remain inside the building and we will have a seated area outside arranged for family members to sit down.

This visiting policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure it is safe and observing clear Government guidelines. We may extend the visiting days and time slots as advised and as is practicable.

We will provide Relatives with further updates and information directly and we very much look forward to welcoming them back to our homes soon.

8th October 2020

Unfortunately, Stainton Lodge Care Centre remains closed to visitors, following direction from Middlesbrough Council and Public Health England. In response to this, we have set up 2 iPads to facilitate Facetime or Skype calls with loved ones, as we know our residents are missing their families and they are missing them too. We hope that these calls can bring both residents and families comfort and happiness from seeing and chatting to their loved one, even if it cannot be face to face at this time. If you would like to book a Facetime or Skype call, please contact Mel, our Activities Co-ordinator, between 9-5, Monday – Friday on 01642 590404.

11th September 2020

It is with regret to announce that Stainton Lodge Care Centre has had to close for visiting today. This is a result of the decision made by Public Health England and Middlesbrough Council. The guidance Stainton Lodge Care Centre received today from Mark Adams, Director of Public Health and Erik Scollay, Director of Adult Social Care & Health Integration, stated that:

“As you will be aware from national and local media, there has been a significant increase in confirmed coronavirus cases in Middlesbrough. As a result we are contacting you to advise that it is our assessment that visiting in your care home should be suspended until further notice.

This is not a decision that has been taken lightly, as we understand the importance of visiting for your residents and also for their family members and friends, but our priority is to protect our most vulnerable residents.”

We apologise to all the friends and family members who have loved ones living in Stainton Lodge Care Centre and we understand that this is a difficult time. We still offer the option of a FaceTime call with a loved one – if you would like to book a FaceTime appointment or would like any further information regarding visiting, please call the home on 01642 590404.

10th September 2020

Stainton Lodge Care Centre has now re-opened for visiting. Visits are limited 30 minutes long and only 1 designated family member can visit a relative. Visits are available to book Monday – Friday 9.30am – 2.30pm. If you would like to book a visit to see your relative please call the office on 01642 590404.

14th August 2020

Stainton Lodge Care Centre remains closed for visiting. The current policy in place as decided by Middlesbrough Council and Public Health England is that if any member of staff or resident tests positive for COVID-19, the home must shut down to non-essential visitors for 28 days from the test date. If another individual tests positive during this 28 day period, the period is then re-commenced from the second test date. We understand that this is upsetting and frustrating for families and relatives, as they are unable to visit their loved ones.

Although we cannot facilitate face-to-face visits at this time, we do have the option of a short Face Time session which can be arranged through contacting your relatives unit and speaking to the Senior in charge.

If you have any queries or concerns regarding your loved one, please do not hesitate to contact myself, Rachel Deakin, the Home Manager or your relatives Senior in charge on 01642 590404.

Updated 11th August 2020

Information for our Residents, Colleagues and Relatives

Following updated guidance from Public Health England and Middlesbrough Council we have updated our visiting policy in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are currently not accepting any visitors into the home and this will be reviewed on a weekly basis, which is explained below.

A summary of the updated guidance is as follows:

  1. The care home must NOT allow any visits to take place within 28 days of a positive test result, either staff or resident. At the moment, weekly testing is in place for both staff and residents and we are following guidance from Public Health England and Middlesbrough Council on our testing cycles. Therefore, this allows this 28 day lockdown period to be reviewed weekly, so we can open for visits again for loved ones.
  2. Stainton Lodge Care Centre is obliged to close the home to all visitors and cancel any pre-booked visits at any given time, in response to any of the following: An outbreak in the care home (1 positive COVID-19 case or more), an outbreak in the local community and staff shortages.
  3. When visiting a loved one, only one family member is permitted to visit per week. This is in place to ensure track and trace can be followed and to limit the amount of visitors in and out of the care home.
  4. The visitor must not enter the home if they have symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in contact with an individual with symptoms, or tested positive with COVID-19. They must also agree to sanitise their hands wear full PPE when entering the home including a disposable apron, face mask and gloves and sit 2 metres apart. Furthermore, they must have their temperature taken which must be under 37.8c and provide their contact information for track and trace purposes.

If you would like a copy of the guidance for care homes and Stainton Lodge Care Centre’s risk assessment for visiting during the COVID-19 pandemic, please contact the home on 01642 596404.

Stainton Lodge Care Centre is currently closed for visiting – if you would like to know up to date information regarding what date we may recommence visiting please contact the home on 01642 596404.

Update Tuesday 16th June 2020

Information for our Residents, Colleagues and Relatives

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, we are continuing to do everything we can to respond quickly and effectively and protect the health of our Residents and Colleagues, support Relatives and work with our local health partners in-keeping with Government and PHE guidelines.

Stainton Care Homes have always had robust policies in place to both prepare for and prevent the spread of any infection, and we are employing these policies to deal with coronavirus whilst listening carefully to, and following the latest government guidance.

Visiting – Upcoming Changes

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been doing everything we can to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 in our homes, and protect our vulnerable Residents from the virus. A key part of this was stopping all non-essential routine visits to our care homes on 16th March 2020. We appreciate that it has been incredibly difficult for Residents and their loved ones to be apart, and we are grateful to Residents, Relatives and Colleagues alike for their support, understanding and efforts during this difficult time as we have prioritised Residents’ safety.

Following recent changes to the government guidance through which elements of the lockdown have been eased, we are reviewing our policy in line with these changes and looking to ease our own restrictions on visits to our homes, and welcome our Relatives back into our homes.

The nature of the visits will depend on the current COVID-19 status of the home. The visits will be introduced gradually, responsibly and conducted in accordance with government guidance in order to continue to safeguard the health and wellbeing of Residents, Colleagues and Relatives. Our visits will be kept to outdoor spaces, and observe 2m social distancing. No more than 2 visitors during any visit. It is anticipated that from Monday 22nd June we will make 1 hour slots available from Monday to Friday. This is to have a management presence to ensure that visits are managed and run smoothly for all.

Hour slots will be available and will need to be booked in advance by calling the home to arrange a visit. Visits can only be booked by the Home’s Administrator and not staff working on the units. This to avoid any double booking.

Visits will be 9.30am, 10.30am, 11.30am, 1.30pm and 2.30pm. Please keep your visit to 45 minutes to allow staff time to deep clean the area in preparation for the next visit. At Stainton Lodge we will prepare an area of the courtyard and erect a gazebo for shelter. At Stainton Way, the resident will remain in the doorway of the garden room and a gazebo will be erected for visitors to have cover.

On the date and time of your arranged visit, you will be met at the front door by a member of staff and taken through the PPE process. Please observe all PPE requests. We may request to take your temperature using the laser thermometer on your forehead.

This visiting policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure it is safe and observing clear Government guidelines. We may extend the visiting days and time slots as advised and as is practicable.

We will provide Relatives with further updates and information directly and we very much look forward to welcoming them back to our homes soon.

Compassionate Visiting

Visiting may be possible in the Residents own personal bedroom for close family members of a Resident who is critically ill or at the end of their life, as long as it is agreed with the Home Manager and that:-

  • You and members of your household do not have symptoms of coronavirus, like a fever or cough or loss of taste and smell.• You have not been told to self-isolate or shield for health reasons or identified via the track and trace system

This visit must be pre-arranged and should only take place at the agreed time via the agreed entrance door, so we can ensure that a member of our staff team is available to meet you at the door to and take you through the necessary procedures and escort you to your loved one’s room.

We have prepared clear guidance to explain what you can expect from a compassionate visit and this will be provided to you if a compassionate visit is considered as the best thing for you and your loved one.

As ever, we thank you for your understanding, co-operation, patience and support.

Coronavirus Update

27th May 2020

Dear all

We appreciate how difficult it must be if you have a loved one living in a care home at this time, so we want to assure you that we are doing everything we can to keep all those that live and work in our homes as safe as possible. Our strict protocols on infectious diseases are in place and we continue to follow all Government instructions, directives, guidelines and advice.

In March we took the difficult decision to suspend visits to our Stainton Care Homes, apart from in exceptional circumstances agreed in advance, in order to prioritise resident safety which has and will remain our primary concern.   Whilst it appears that we might be past the peak of the virus, care homes remain very vulnerable, given the age of the residents and the disproportionate risk that the virus presents to the elderly.  Therefore, for the time being we have no option but to continue with our current lockdown arrangements.  These will remain in place until we can be assured that the situation is safe enough to start affecting changes to our current restrictions on visitor policy.

We can confirm that the Stainton Homes were fully tested last week including residents and staff as part of the Government programme specific to all Care Homes. This was a very positive step in so far as it shows us where the respective homes currently are in terms of being positive or negative with COVID-19. This assists us in determining the isolation care programme that each individual resident requires at this time. Families have been informed of results. Many of you have asked when you will be able to visit your loved one again, and the truth is that at this point in time, we do not know the answer to that question. We assume that it will be announced publicly when further restrictions can be lifted regarding the visiting of Care Homes.

As this is an ever-changing situation, all government advice will continue to be monitored so that our approach remains in accordance with the latest recommendations. Please do check this page regularly as it will be updated to reflect any development or change to our guidance.

We would like to thank all those in our care, their relatives and friends for their continued support at this time and to recognise and thank all of our staff for their passion and commitment in delivering care in such difficult circumstances.

Coronavirus Update

Tuesday 17th March 2020

This information is intended for Stainton Lodge Care Centre Residents, Colleagues, and any visitors to our homes, and is in response to  the Governments advice, recommendations and guidelines published at 5pm on the 16th March 2020.

For comprehensive information about the coronavirus itself, please visit either the Gov.UK or NHS websites.

Visiting Stainton Lodge Care Centre

For us, the health and safety of our Residents and Colleagues is our top priority. As such, we have made the decision to limit non-essential visitors to our care home until further notice.

We have not taken this decision lightly, but we know our visitors, including relatives and loved ones, would want us to do everything possible to keep the Residents in our care safe and well.

Non-essential visits include routine visits from Relatives and loved ones, visits from individuals such as individual hairdressers and entertainers, and from professionals and contractors carrying out non-essential services.

If you can delay your visit or achieve its purpose via another method (i.e. through a telephone call or video call), then please do so.

Requests for essential visits where exceptional circumstances arise will be considered. These can be arranged by contacting the Home Manager directly on (01642) 590404. Also, please reduce the number of persons visiting.

If an essential visit is granted, we ask that a number of steps are taken to limit any potential risk.

Please do not attempt to arrange a visit to Stainton Lodge Care Centre for any reason if you currently feel unwell, particularly if you have a cough, a fever or high-temperature, or have shortness of breath, or if you have been in contact with someone who may have coronavirus, or are currently undertaking a 7 day (individual) or 14 day (more than one person in the household) self-isolation process.

If you are making an essential visit to Stainton Lodge Care Centre, it is important that you do so safely and in a way that minimises the risk of infection to our Residents and Colleagues. Therefore, before visiting and whilst on site, please observe the following:

•    Hand washing. It is important that you wash your hands thoroughly before you visit the care home, and regularly whilst you are at the home. Please make sure you wash your hands for a minimum of 20 seconds, using either hot water and soap or the 60% alcohol sanitiser gel that is provided. Additional hand washing stations have been set up at Stainton Lodge to help essential visitors wash their hands regularly.
•    Coughs and sneezes. We understand there are many reasons why someone may cough or sneeze. However, whilst visiting Stainton Lodge, please make sure you have a tissue on you at all times so that you can catch a cough or sneeze. Please then immediately dispose of the tissue in the bin. Remember – Catch it. Bin it. Kill it.

Protecting our Residents and Colleagues

Please be assured that Stainton Lodge Care Centre is treating this matter with the utmost seriousness and a comprehensive outbreak policy and business continuity plan are in place in the event of a coronavirus outbreak at a home.

All Staff and Colleagues have been informed of the steps we are taking and how they can help prevent the spread of infection. This includes establishing hand washing stations in the reception area. All staff have completed training in Infection Prevention Control (IPC) and practices are being observed by their own peer groups.

Senior staff are meeting on an almost daily basis and are monitoring and reacting to the latest guidance issued by the UK Government, the NHS, and public health bodies.

This guidance will be updated to reflect the latest information and advice regarding any additional steps we are instructed, advised or recommended to take, to safeguard the health of our Residents and Staff.

For any Visitor who has further questions about our response to the coronavirus, please call the Home Manager on (01642) 590404

Thank you for your co-operation, from all at Stainton Lodge Care Centre.
